I think fisher still shows promise. He actually improved over the last fight, but it would be crazy to match them again soon. Maybe later as a confidence fight when allen is clearly on the downside. But now... Allen has his number. Fisher needs five or so fights against varied styles. He needs to get the experience he would have acquired with more amateur pedigree. He is still not relaxed in the ring and thats why he tires. That all comes with experience. I think he has good technique, tough as can be, pretty goud chin but hes just not relaxed enough as yet to be a fluid combination puncher. His straight rights to allens mid section didnt involve any level change... Tentative at best, and his combinations just dont look smooth. He needs more ring experience and lots and lots of shadowboxing. It will come. Losing to allen is no reason to question your career. In the old days it was no big deal to lose to a wily veteran on the way up. Only today is the undefeated recird so sacrosanct. Canelo lost to mayweather, louis to schmeling, hagler had a draw a d a loss. All this made better fighters.
I too was disappointed at his weight but ive seen conditioned heavyweights before that have trouble with the fork and spoon. Fisher actually fought smarter than in the first fight but Allen applies deceptive pressure and defends a lot better than it appears in the cheaper seats. Aside from that overhand right allen landed some sharp shovel hooks to the liver and one in the solar plexus (fisher had turned toward it) that really hurt fisher but no commentator picked up on it. Allen has explosive speed when he smells blood and lets be frank, not many heavies have ko power in either hand. In really good shape ill bet allen has a jackhammer jab and hook off it both high and low. This may sound crazy to some but in shape Allen is world class. While he may not be championship material, hell never be embarrassed in a big fight.... Again though, as long as hes got a nice ten week camp behind him and doesnt need to spend it losing more than say fifteen pounds. Last point, regarding his chin, daves got a big neck, thick through the core and has sturdy strong legs. Hes made to take a good shot but i dont really think he takes that many. His ha ds are high, he sees whats coming and usually takes the steam off them. The heavyweight scene is full of these young adonis types who are strong and can punch but those guys arent what can beat an allen. Plus you can never discount his left to the liver. He sneaks it in with pop. Granted, im a big allen fan. Im old school and appreciate skill. Dave has lots of it and could have a great career wind up. Can you imagine a derek chisora dave allen match up. While not a pay per view fight or one of world title significanse, what a ticket selling machine.
Fisher is only 26 years old - nothing is impossible. But he has a long way to go if he's even going to win a British title. As for Allen, there is definitely some boxing ability there but over ten years later and he still isn't taking it 100% seriously which is a shame because I would love to see him win a British title.
